The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.
Lucille Ball
There are ridiculous websites like www.anti-aging-guide.com and an ungodly number of "stay young" books, but there are probably better ways to spend your time.
Comedian George Carlin has his list of tips on how to stay young - here's a sampling:
- Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.
- Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening,
whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
- Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
- Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

Jack Handey

Friedman discusses the causes of the flattening of the world, America's relationship to this world, and how it it will affect companies. Read the jacket flap on Friedman's website. Friedman has 3 Pulitzers. How many do you have? Learn why losing jobs to India and China may not be the end of the US. See the big picture of now. If you think outsouring, offshoring, and open sourcing are interesting; you are a dork and this is a book for you.

It's your duty to be an early adopter. Being too far ahead of the curve is expensive and you run the risk of being labled a techie. Technology is changing faster than ever, so you’ve got to work to keep up.
At this point you are in good standing if you are involved with podcasting. If by 2010 12.3 million households will be doing it, you should get on this now. Basically you download shows, playlists, stories, or any content from the net onto your mp3 player. Some sites to get you started:

"A bookstore is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking."
Jerry Seinfeld
Ever get lost trying to find a great book to read? Well before you dive into the bookstore, check out the New York Times Best Seller List -- it has pop classics like "The Da Vinci Code" and newer hits like Malcom Gladwell's "Blink" and "Freakonomics".

Hooch is crazy.
Watch Scrubs.
So I'll be out of town for a few weeks but expect a young urban professional's guide to flying internationally business class, getting around Moscow, drinking Vodka, avoiding the KGB, and sailing the BVI's- and in an unrelated note, non-sequitors.

Fathers send their sons to college either because they went to college or because they didn't.
L. L. Henderson
Only 1 out of every 4 Americans has a Bachelor's degree or higher. Georgia thinks a degree from their university system is worth an average of $14,000/year in additional earnings, while the Census Bureau says a degree gets you about $1 million more over the course of your life.
No wonder the US News & World Report creates a report that ranks their list of best colleges by value...

I have discovered that all of man's unhappiness derives from only one source, not being able to sit quietly in a room - Blaise Pascal

"If morality represents how we would like the world to work, then economics represents how it actually does work."
Freakenomics is a great book for starting those cocktail party conversations. It explores the hidden side of incentives, like How babies with super-black names will fare. An interesting study into correlations we normally don't think about (like why crack dealers still live with their moms, by authors who have started an amusing blog; Freakonomics should be added to your reading list.

There is not any memory with less satisfaction than the memory of some temptation we resisted.
James Branch Cabell
Sure, there are things we'd like to forget, but more often than not, most of us wish we were better at remembering. One of the best tips for improving memory is to write things down. Since this isn't always possible, the experts provide us with some advice on how to improve your memory.
Use the journey method to visualize lists by placing the objects along a familiar path.
All memory is based on elaborate enconding- the more vivid the association, the stronger the memory. Therefore, try to assign vivid images to mundane items.
Names can be critical in a business or social setting. When introduced repeat the name, ask how to spell it, and create an image or ryhme including the name and face in your head.

Don't worry be happy
Bobby McFerrin
... at work. Yuppies have their self improvement books. Everyone's read them. However, the yuppie generation has moved on from the superficial South Beach Diet and the silly 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, to something more important: happiness.
The Art of Happiness at Work. While not a radical departure from The Art of Happiness, this book is worth reading. It will keep you sane during those days when you wish you could get "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere" out of you head. The Dalai Lama practices what he preaches and can rarely be found without a smile on his face. However stressful your job can getsful thing in the world, but he is a spiritual leader who lost his country, so he's qualified to teach us all a few things.
